2027: Ochei Visits Asagba Of Asaba, Seeks Royal Blessings, Fatherly Support For Delta North Senatorial Bid

Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC, Delta North Senatorial Candidate for the 2027 general elections, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has paid a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge at his palace to seek his fatherly blessing, prayers, and support ahead of his senatorial ambition.

Addressing the esteemed Monarch and his royal court during the visit, Rt. Hon. Victor Onyekachi Ochei acknowledged Asagba Azinge and the Palace Chiefs for the warm hospitality accorded him, and while noting that this is the first traditional ruler courtesy visit he is undertaking across Anioma, and as a proud son of Anioma extraction, it was only worthy to visit the first-class monarch before any other place, used the opportunity of the royal homage to officially declare his aspiration for the Delta North Senatorial seat under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) before the revered monarch.

The NDC Delta North Senatorial Candidate then outlined his political ambition and his vision for effective representation of the people of Delta North, even as he highlighted his scorecard, recalling when he got into the Delta State House of Assembly via a minority party and defeating the Majority Leader of the house to clinch his first term in the Assembly, noting that it is time to do it again.

Rt. Hon. Ochei also informed the Asaba Monarch that he will be proceeding to various wards in Oshimili South after the courtesy visit and thereafter sought the royal blessings of Asagba Azinge in his political aspiration.

In his response, the Asagba of Asaba HRM in his remarks, noted that Rt. Hon. Ochei has been a professional colleague, friend, brother and close family member over the years and warmly welcomed the NDC Delta North Senatorial Candidate Ochei and his entourage, providing a cordial atmosphere for discussions on leadership, representation and the future of Delta North Senatorial District.

The Asagba acknowledged Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei’s exceptional intelligence and eloquence, expressing admiration for the quality of his speech and the depth of his presentation, stating that, throughout Rt Hon Ochei’s political career, he had not heard any negative reports about his conduct, both during his tenure as a member of the Delta State House of Assembly and as Speaker of the House.

“You have espoused so brilliantly and expressed your legitimate political ambition to contest for a political office, which is one of the most fundamental rights of a citizen,” Asagba Azinge stated.

His Majesty applauded Rt. Hon. Ochei for finding it worthy to kick-start his Delta North Senatorial campaign consultations from the Palace, as a proud illustrious son of Anioma, even as he affirmed that as the traditional ruler of Asaba, he remains apolitical and a father-figure to all candidates aspiring to various elective offices.

He also noted Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei’s professional background as an engineer and a lawyer, combined with his legislative experience as a former member and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, all of which equipped him with valuable knowledge, experience, and leadership qualities to represent Delta North effectively.

Speaking on the qualities of good leadership and effective representation, the Asagba emphasised the importance of accountability and the need for leaders to continually assess the satisfaction of the people they serve.

According to him, leadership is fundamentally about representing the interests of the people, and it is essential for those in positions of authority to understand whether their constituents are satisfied with their performance.

Nna Agu emphasized that the pathway to actualizing Rt. Hon. Ochei’s ambition is to engage the electorate, making known what he can do differently and how he intends to take the people of Delta North from point A to point B, adding strongly that only through issues-based engagement can the people be truly convinced.

He counselled the delegation to make the contestation issues-driven by ensuring a commitment to free and fair elections, avoiding abusive language online, and shunning acts of violence.

Asagba Azinge then stated with emphasis that his foremost desire upon ascension to the throne was to ensure that Asaba remains peaceful, a goal he has pursued in close collaboration with all security apparatus, adding that he can boldly state that Asaba remains the most peaceful state capital where relative peace is enjoyed.

“Election is not just one man, one vote, but through research, it is one man, one vote and one value. This we are yet to understand, because the value of the one man we vote for is what supersedes all,” Nna Agu noted, stressing that all must work towards a free, fair and credible election.

The Asagba thereafter offered prayers for Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, invoked the blessings of Ani Ahaba upon him and his entourage and wished him success in the forthcoming senatorial elections and in all his undertakings.
