The Senior Policy Adviser, Labour Relations and Servicom to the Delta State Government, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, said Dennis Osadebay University is one of the fastest growing universities in Nigeria.
He attributed this to the support of the governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and his commitment to making the university a citadel of excellence.
Solomon said this when he led the Servicom train to Dennis Osadebay University to have an interactive session on the service compact (Servicom) reintroduced by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Solomon pointed out as part of creating a climate where services are rendered with diligence, the decent learning environment promised by the governor should be complemented by instilling decency the dressed code and manners of students.
He applauded the management of the institution and asked them to sustain what they have built over the years as a standing legacy for future generations.
Solomon, a former deputy speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, frowned at the abuse of concessions granted young parents to pick up their children from their schools. The practice usually called school runs, he noted, is routinely abused as such parents do not return to their offices after taking their children home while some parents who no longer have children of school age make false claims to abandon their duty posts.
In his words, “Servicom is all about good service delivery, and it must be timely, fair, and acceptable”. He charged the management team to strive for quality service delivery as a way of good governance in the institution to attract higher rating for the institution.
He said Governor Oborevwori will continue to support the institution in the area of infrastructure, especially in the Faculty of Science and other faculties through improved funding.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ovuete Aghalino, who was represented by Professor Patrick Ajieh, said that although the institution is young, it intends to compete with other world class universities if given the necessary support.
He promised to create a functional synergy with the state government to give greater effect to the MORE Agenda of the administration.
