A Tribute to His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON (2007–2015)
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of personal loss that I mourn the passing of His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, former Governor of Delta State, whose departure has brought to a close a remarkable chapter in the political history of our dear state.
Having had the privilege of serving as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly during his administration, I recall with great respect our working relationship and shared commitment to democratic governance, institutional development and the advancement of Delta State.
Dr. Uduaghan was a calm, purposeful and visionary leader who combined political experience with a deep understanding of the challenges of governance. His administration’s Delta Beyond Oil initiative reflected his determination to diversify the state’s economy and lay the foundation for sustainable development.
His contributions to peace and security in the Niger Delta, expansion of free maternal and under-five healthcare, investment in education through model schools and scholarships, and infrastructural development, including the Asaba International Airport and extensive road networks, remain significant milestones of his administration.
Beyond these accomplishments, I remember a man of conviction, resilience and restraint, who appreciated the importance of dialogue, consensus-building and institutional cooperation in the pursuit of good governance.
His passing is not only a painful loss to his immediate family but also to Delta State and Nigeria, where his contributions to public service will remain part of our collective history.
On behalf of my family and associates, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his beloved wife, children, the Uduaghan family, the Itsekiri nation and the entire people of Delta State.
May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn his departure.
Farewell, Your Excellency. Your service will be remembered, and your legacy will endure.
