development marks a significant step in Amaechi’s much-anticipated bid for the 2027 presidential election under the ADC platform.

Amaechi, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most experienced and result-oriented leaders, has served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation for seven years.

His supporters highlight his track record in infrastructure development, particularly the transformation of Nigeria’s railway system, as evidence of his capacity to deliver at the national level.

Today’s move comes as the ADC opens its nomination process for the 2027 presidential primaries, with the party setting the cost of the presidential form at ₦100 million. Amaechi joins the race amid growing momentum and endorsements from various quarters, including strong support from South-South ADC leaders.

In recent months, Amaechi has consistently emphasised the need for competence, youth inclusion, power rotation to the South, and a focus on security, economy, and infrastructure as priorities for Nigeria’s next leadership. He has positioned himself as a tested hand capable of turning around the country’s fortunes.

Reactions have begun pouring in on social media, with many describing the development as “the train leaving the station” and a boost for opposition politics ahead of 2027.
