STOP THE CAMPAIGN OF FALSEHOOD AGAINST KHANA: TRUTH MUST PREVAIL – Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Dekor,

Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor

My attention has been drawn to the sustained campaign of misinformation, malicious falsehood, and deliberate attempts by certain disgruntled elements to malign the person and administration of the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Thomas Bariere, PhD, through the reckless dissemination of fabricated stories concerning a non-existent security situation in Khana.

I, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor, DSSRS, KJW, member representing Khana/Gokana federal constituency/Chairman, House Committee on Host Communities, consider it imperative to unequivocally condemn this orchestrated campaign of calumny, which is designed not only to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the Chairman but also to undermine the remarkable peace, stability, and progress that have been restored to Khana since the assumption of office by the present administration.

The facts are clear, incontrovertible, and known to every fair-minded resident of Khana. Before the inauguration of the current local government administration, our communities grappled with security challenges that threatened peace, social harmony, and economic activities.

Through purposeful leadership, strategic collaboration with security agencies, sustained stakeholder engagement, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people, Chief Hon. Thomas Bariere, PhD, has successfully restored public confidence, strengthened security, and fostered an atmosphere of enduring peace across the Local Government Area.

It is, therefore, regrettable that individuals who neither wish Khana well nor can point to any meaningful contribution to its development have resorted to peddling lies, misinformation, half-truths, and outright fabrications in a desperate bid to score cheap political points and create unnecessary anxiety among our people.

It is equally important to state that the persistent campaign of falsehood against the Chairman bears all the hallmarks of a desperate attempt by persons whose vested interests have been disrupted by the administration’s uncompromising fight against gangsterism, cultism, criminality, and every form of social unrest in Khana. The resolve of Chief Hon. Thomas Bariere, PhD, to rid Khana of criminal elements and restore law, order, and public confidence has earned him the admiration of law-abiding citizens but has understandably unsettled those who thrive in an atmosphere of fear, violence, and lawlessness. No responsible government should be expected to tolerate criminality, and no genuine lover of Khana should oppose decisive actions aimed at securing lives and property.

As the elected representative of the good people of Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Host Communities, I cannot remain silent while desperate individuals seek to drag the name of Khana into disrepute through false narratives. Silence in the face of calculated falsehood would amount to complicity, and that is a responsibility I refuse to abdicate.

I, therefore, issue this stern warning to those behind these malicious campaigns: desist forthwith from the deliberate spread of fake news and inflammatory propaganda capable of undermining public peace and confidence. Freedom of expression is guaranteed by law, but it does not extend to defamation, character assassination, the deliberate dissemination of falsehood, or actions capable of disturbing public order.

We are aware that this orchestrated campaign of falsehood is being driven by individuals whose actions and interests are fundamentally opposed to the peace, security, and lawful order now prevailing in Khana.

It is no coincidence that those who have persistently resisted the administration’s determined efforts to confront cultism, gangsterism, kidnapping, violent crime, and other forms of criminality are now at the forefront of sponsoring misinformation, blackmail, and malicious propaganda in a desperate attempt to undermine the Chairman’s unwavering commitment to restoring law and order. Such desperate tactics will neither intimidate this administration nor reverse the gains already made.

We wish to put all those involved on notice that any person found, upon investigation, to have sponsored, financed, coordinated, or deliberately disseminated false and malicious publications intended to incite the public, damage reputations, or undermine public peace will be reported to the appropriate security and law enforcement agencies. Where investigations establish the commission of any offence, the full weight of the law will be brought to bear.

Every applicable law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria—including those relating to cyberstalking, cyberbullying, defamation, malicious publication of false information, incitement, conspiracy, and any other relevant offences—will be invoked to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice through due process of law.

Khana belongs to all of us, and every well-meaning citizen has a collective responsibility to protect its image rather than sabotage it for selfish and criminal interests.

I urge our people to remain vigilant, disregard every concocted story intended to sow fear and discord, and continue to support the administration of Chief Hon. Thomas Bariere, PhD, as it consolidates the gains already recorded in security, governance, and grassroots development.

Let it be clearly understood that no amount of propaganda, falsehood, or sponsored blackmail can erase the visible progress that the people of Khana are witnessing today.

Facts remain sacred, and history will always distinguish genuine service from desperate propaganda.

Together, we shall continue to uphold peace, defend the truth, and promote the collective interest of Khana above criminal ambitions.

Signed:
