At the University of Ilorin, he served as Head of the Department of History and International Studies and Director of the University Archives and Documentation Centre, among other responsibilities.

His notable work, Oil Exploitation in the Western Niger Delta: A Cost-Benefit Analysis, 1956–1995, has become an important reference in academic discussions on the historical and economic implications of oil production in the region.
Through numerous books, scholarly articles and research publications, Aghalino has continued to enrich historical scholarship while demonstrating the relevance of history to contemporary national development.
