Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has described the 2026 Olympic Day Run as a celebration of the enduring values of excellence, friendship, respect and fair play.
Governor Oborevwori represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties Government House, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, stated this during the 2026 Olympic Day Run which held at the Steven Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.
The Governor averred that the ideals of the celebration was a reminder that sports was more than just competition but a powerful force for unity, peace, healthy living and national development, while affirming that sports built character, discipline, resilience, teamwork and perseverance which inspired success in life.
He reiterated his administrations commitment to investing in sports asserting that the State has remained Nigeria’s sporting home due to the sustained investment in the sector by successive administration.
The President of the International Olympic Committee IOC, Kirsty Coventry in her speech also read by Dr. Osuoza said sports was for everyone as it helped to build confidence, self-belief and a sense of purpose, asserting that the Olympic Day Run was not only about exercising but building a united society.


The Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori represented by the Director General of the Commission said the State Sports Commission remained committed to promoting grassroots sports development, discovering young talents, providing platform for sports excellence while urging every Deltan to participate in sports as its benefits were unquantifiable.
Over one hundred sports men and women from within and outside the state capital took part in the event which held at the Steven Keshi international stadium Asaba.
