Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC Rivers State governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has again, reaffirmed his resolve and commitment to reset Rivers State, rebuild the politics, governance and economy of the state towards fulfilling the collective desire to restore Rivers to it’s former greatness.
Chief Lulu-Briggs gave the pledge when he hosted a live media parley with top journalists and media personalities in Rivers State, captioned: “LET’S TALK RIVERS STATE,” and shared his vision, his plans, and the future he envisioned for Rivers State, when he becomes Governor under the NDC in 2027.
The interactive media event which was anchored by ace broadcaster Mr. Segun Owolabi, held on Monday, 5th October 2026, was streamed live on Arise News, Super FM, Nigeria Info, Treasure FM and across major internet platforms including YouTube, as well as all his verified social media handles.
Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs summarized the media parley in a post shared on his social media handles thus:
I am running to Reset Rivers State.
For me, this is not just a campaign slogan. It is a commitment to rebuild the politics, governance and economy of our state and restore Rivers to the greatness we once knew.
I believe Rivers State can grow from an estimated $20 billion economy to a $200 billion economy within 15 years. We can achieve this by deliberately investing in the sectors that can create wealth, attract investment and provide opportunities for our people.
We must strengthen aviation, trade, hospitality, coastal tourism, ICT and the creative economy. We must make Port Harcourt a truly business-friendly city and create an environment where businesses can grow, investors can come and our young people can turn their talents and ideas into viable enterprises.
We must expand our economy, create new cities and urban commercial hubs around the state.
We must also fix the fundamentals.
Our civil service must become functional, efficient and attractive. Our schools must receive the attention they deserve. Our hospitals must work, with better facilities and more doctors and healthcare professionals. We can even build a health sector that attracts people from beyond Rivers State.
Most importantly, government must belong to everyone.
I have no godfather. I am not coming to government to serve a political interest, an ethnic group or a particular party structure. I am coming to serve Rivers people.
I have spent my life building businesses, starting small and growing them into something bigger. I understand development, but beyond knowledge, I have the capacity and, importantly, the independence to make decisions in the interest of our people.
I am not in this race because of the salary of office. I do not need it. Whatever salary I earn as Governor will go towards supporting widows across Rivers State.
This is about service.
This is about creating an economy where a young Rivers man or woman does not need to know a godfather before they can succeed.
This is about a government that is transparent, inclusive and accountable.
Rivers State has been great before. We can make it great again.
We have the resources. We have the people. We have the talent. What we need is purposeful leadership and the courage to reset the system.
Rivers State belongs to the people, and I know our dear state can work.
Rivers State must work.
And NDC will lead the way.
