DELTA NORTH 2027: Why A Debate Is Not An Insult, It Is Democracy – By Austin Edemodu, PhD

Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei

The panic in Delta North APC camp since Rt. Hon. Engr. Victor Ochei demanded a public debate among senatorial candidates is very revealing.

Why is the mere mention of debate causing people to run from pillar to post?

A debate is not an insult. A debate is not theatrics. A debate is the foundation of democracy. If a candidate wants to return to the Senate after 8 years as Governor and 4 years as Senator before, that candidate must not be afraid of the podium. The people of Delta North deserve to hear, face to face, why power should return to the same hands.

The propaganda says Ochei talks too much about Okowa. The truth is different. Ochei talks about Delta North. The old order is only uncomfortable because Ochei mentions the facts the old order wants forgotten.

Go to Ndokwa today and mention Okpai. The Okpai Independent Power Plant powers the national grid while Ndokwa communities live in darkness. Is demanding a step-down a personal attack? No. It is economic justice.

Go to the farms. Farmers are afraid to enter farms because the Delta State Livestock Law of 2021 exists only on paper. Is demanding effective enforcement a personal attack? No. It is security.

Go to the villages. Produce rots because farm-to-market roads are impassable. Is demanding roads that connect farms to markets a personal attack? No. It is development.

The APC camp asks for Ochei’s manifesto. The manifesto is already public and very clear. It is not Simba roaring. It is a practical reset:

  1. Security First: Make farms safe again through enforcement of existing laws, protection of rural communities, and rapid response.
  2. Roads: Fix the rural and inter-community roads that connect Anioma to food and markets.
  3. Electricity: Light up Ndokwa through Okpai step-down and turn power into enterprise.
  4. Agro-Industry: Move from raw crops to processing, storage, packaging, jobs.
  5. Waste to Wealth: Turn agricultural residue into animal feed, compost, biomass.
  6. Youth: Not political empowerment, but productive capacity – skills in agro-tech, renewable energy, logistics, digital enterprise.
  7. Investment: Attract private capital, not wait for government.
  8. A Senate Office that Works: A constituency system that reports progress, not propaganda.

That is the New Vision for a Secure, Productive and Prosperous Delta North. That is what Ochei presented to Ndokwa Neku Union and Nsukwa Clan – not insults. If that vision makes the old order jittery, so be it.

The truth nobody wants to say is this: The people of Delta North have already made up their minds irrespective of manipulative tendencies – the manipulation of voter register, creation of extra wards, and financial inducements ahead of January 16, 2027. Those tricks will only postpone the inevitable defeat.

Anioma does not need a coronation. Anioma needs a conversation. And a leader who is confident of his record does not run from debate he embraces it.

Ochei is ready. The people are ready. Let the debate hold. Let Anioma decide.
