The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his swift and decisive intervention in the deplorable condition of the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
The monarch expressed appreciation to the President for directing the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene and ensure that necessary corrective measures are taken to restore movement on the affected sections of the highway as quickly as possible.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and signed by Chukwura Ogechukwu Charles, the Palace Secretary.
Asagba Azinge described the presidential directive as a huge relief to commuters, traders and residents of Delta and Edo States, particularly the people of Asaba and the entire Anioma nation, who have endured severe hardship as a result of the deteriorating condition of the road.
He said the intervention demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, noting that the Asaba-Benin Expressway remains a critical transportation and economic corridor connecting communities and businesses across the South-South and South-East regions.
“For years, road users of the Asaba/Benin Expressway have endured unimaginable hardship, wasted man-hours, incessant vehicle breakdowns and mental stress. A journey of barely three hours often stretches into an entire day.
“We thank Mr. President for hearing our cry and for charging the contractors to accelerate work to make the road safe and motorable for all users,” the Asagba stated.
The traditional ruler also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the ongoing rehabilitation of the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway, being handled by Hart-land Construction Company, which he noted is now nearing completion.
According to him, the rehabilitation of the two major road corridors would have significant positive implications for commerce, transportation, security and regional connectivity.
He noted that improved road infrastructure would facilitate the movement of people, agricultural produce, goods and services, while reducing the economic losses and psychological stress currently experienced by road users.
The Asagba, on behalf of the people of Asaba Kingdom, expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for responding to the concerns of commuters and communities affected by the deplorable condition of the highway.
He said the intervention would strengthen connectivity between the South-East and South-South regions and contribute to increased economic activities across the corridor.
“This intervention will boost commerce, security and connectivity between the South-East and South-South regions. We pray God grants Mr. President the wisdom and strength to continue his Renewed Hope Agenda,” the monarch added.
