Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, visited the presidential villa and presented his certificate of return to President Bola Tinubu, following a closed-door meeting at the Aso Villa, Abuja.
Adeleke arrived at the Villa around 5:20–5:25 p.m. in a navy blue traditional attire, brandishing a walking stick and alighting from a black Toyota Land Cruiser SUV. He arrived alongside National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and was accompanied by several Osun State officials and Accord Party chieftains, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.
It is his first meeting with the President since his re-election in last Saturday’s governorship election.
Speaking briefly with State House correspondents after meeting with the President, Adeleke said Tinubu deserved commendation for allowing the electoral process to run its course without interference.
According to Adeleke, his visit was primarily to thank Tinubu, whom he described as the “father of the nation”, for respecting the democratic process.
“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.
“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result.
“That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria. Thank you very much,” the Osun governor said.
In a tweet by Adeleke’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Olalekan Badmus, the governor was seen shaking hands with the president.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke presented his certificate of return to President Tinubu following a closed-door meeting at Aso Villa,” the tweet read.

Meanwhile and in a related, re-elected Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday August 20, 2026, also visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, continuing a series of consultations in Abuja following his recent re-election.
A photograph of the meeting shared on X by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, shows Adeleke shaking hands with the FCT minister as they both hold the governor’s certificate of return.
Olayinka captioned the picture, “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”
The visit came hours after the governor held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
During the meeting, the governor presented his certificate of return to the Minister and expressed gratitude for the conduct of the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission after securing 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
