2027: Peter Obi Emerges NDC’s Sole Presidential Aspirant

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has emerged as the sole presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general election following the close of nomination form sales by the party.

The NDC confirmed that Obi was the only politician who purchased and submitted the party’s presidential expression of interest and nomination forms before the deadline expired. Party officials subsequently announced the closure of presidential form sales while extending the deadline for governorship and legislative aspirants.

The development effectively clears the path for Obi to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 presidential election after his recent defection from the African Democratic Congress-led opposition coalition to the NDC amid disagreements within the alliance.

National Secretary of the party, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said the extension announced by the party applied only to governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly aspirants, noting that the presidential process had officially concluded.
