The Rivers State ADC has issued a unified call for the resignation of INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan.
The party highlighted that this collective stance reflects the shared concerns of its leadership and supporters regarding the credibility and integrity of the electoral body.
The ADC stressed that for democracy to thrive, Nigerians must have complete confidence in INEC’s independence, transparency, and fairness.
The Rivers State ADC reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and lawful engagement, urging relevant authorities to take decisive steps to restore public trust in the electoral process.
The full communique reads:

COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE RIVERS STATE ADC PEACEFUL PROTEST TO THE INEC OFFICE
We, members and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, in the company of concerned citizens and pro-democracy advocates, staged a peaceful protest to the Rivers State office of INEC to express our deep dissatisfaction with the current leadership of the Commission under the Chairman, Amupitan.
This protest was driven by our firm belief that the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process is under serious threat. We strongly assert that the present INEC Chairman has demonstrated clear signs of bias and lack of neutrality, which disqualifies him from leading the nation into a credible and transparent general election.
An electoral umpire must be impartial, fair, and committed to democratic principles. When the leadership of such an institution becomes compromised, it not only erodes public trust but also endangers the very foundation of democracy. A biased umpire is, without question, a traitor to democracy and the collective will of the people.
We therefore demand the immediate resignation of the INEC Chairman, as his continued stay in office poses a grave risk to the credibility of future elections in Nigeria.

Furthermore, we strongly condemn any attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government to manipulate the electoral system in a bid to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. Such actions are unacceptable and contrary to the principles of democratic governance.
Nigeria belongs to all its citizens, and its democracy must be protected through free, fair, and credible elections conducted by a truly independent electoral body.
We reaffirm our commitment to peaceful civic engagement and call on all well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organizations, and the international community to stand in defense of democracy.

Signed:
Rivers State ADC Leadership
