The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians, political stakeholders, and the faith community to remain united, seek divine guidance, and actively participate in the democratic process to ensure lasting peace, progress, and development across the country.
​Governor Oborevwori made the call while speaking at the Mega Christian Political Prayer Rally (MCPPR’26), organized by Team RM and Sheriff Patriot in conjunction with various faith-based organizations and community-based religious groups.
The Governor was represented at the rally which took place in Asaba on Wednesday by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D.
​Expressing gratitude to the organizers and the Christian community for seeking God’s guidance for Nigeria, the Governor noted that the rally’s central theme, “Operation Total Sweep,” is a call to unity, mobilization, and commitment for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State in particular ahead of the 2027 general elections spanning the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly races.
​Drawing from 2 Chronicles 7:14, Psalm 133:1, and James 5:16, the Governor emphasized that prayer must go hand-in-hand with active civic responsibility, love, and peaceful engagement.
​”Leadership is a sacred responsibility; we must govern with fairness, compassion, and accountability while creating opportunities and improving the lives of our people. But government cannot do it alone; we need the prayers, support, and responsible participation of our people, and we need the Church to continue to be a strong voice for righteousness, peace, integrity, and good citizenship.
“This gathering is a demonstration of our faith in God and our shared commitment to the peace, unity and progress of Delta State.
“I commend Team RM, Sheriff Patriot and the Christian organisations that have come together to convene this important gathering; you have reminded us that, in all our efforts, we must continue to seek God’s guidance and direction.
“The theme,”Operation Total Sweep,” carries a clear political message; it speaks to the aspiration of the APC in Delta State to secure victory across the ballot in the 2027 general elections, from the Presidential election to the National Assembly, Governorship and
State House of Assembly elections.
“It is, therefore, a call for unity, mobilisation and commitment to the political process as we look ahead to 2027.
“The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face…then will I hear from heaven.”
“This is a reminder that prayer begins with humility, repentance and a sincere desire to seek God’s will.
“The Scripture also says,”Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.”(Psalm 133:7). We must therefore protect the unity and peace of our State. We must reject hatred, division and violence, respect one another and work together for the common good.
“And as James 5:16 reminds us,”The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” So, let us pray with faith, but let us also act with responsibility, compassion and love for one another.
“As we conclude this prayer rally, let us take the message of “Operation Total Sweep” beyond this gathering, let us go into our communities, engage our people, strengthen our structures and
mobilise peacefully for the 2027 general elections.
“As we do so, let us also showcase the accomplishments of this administration across every sector: our investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, agriculture, security, economic empowerment and other areas that directly affect the lives of our people.
“Let us work together, remain united and ensure that our message of
faith, development, peace and good governance reaches everyone and every community across Delta State.
“Today, let our prayers rise as one voice for Delta State,” the Governor said.
The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who is the Delta North Senatorial candidate in the forthcoming elections at the rally, said, “as Christians, we have to continue to pray and ask for the wisdom of God.
“We cannot question the will of God in our life and activities, God allows a thing because He has a purpose.”
Sen. Okowa called on all Nigerians to vote for all the candidates of the APC in the forthcoming elections noting that “the various reforms and policies both at the federal, state and local government levels are for the benefits of the people.”
He gave several reasons why Nigerians and Deltans in particular should vote for the candidates of the APC.
In their goodwill messages, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Sen. Emmanuel Agwaravwodo, Prince Emma Amgbaduba, Chairman , APC Delta South, among others who spoke at the occasion , called on Christians to translate this support the APC to voting in the forthcoming general election.
Earlier in a welcome address, the State Mobilization Director/State Coordinator, Religious Matters, Rev. Okonye Ifechukwude said, TEAM RM SHERIFF PATRIOTS is a platform specifically to give room for all Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) and Community Based Religious Groups (CBRGs) to come together to speak with one voice politically in favour of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
He disclosed that, the resolution began with a consultative meeting where it was unanimously resolved to vote in favour of the party APC with the motion moved for the adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as sole Presidential candidate of APC, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as sole Governorship candidate of APC in Delta State and all APC candidates for the Senate, House of Representative and the House of Assembly.
He said the political rally recognizes the truth that without God, we can all do nothing and that power belongs to God, adding that they have come to put God first towards realization of the set goals.
Delivering a sermon at the rally, Bishop Kingsley Enakirerhi represented by Rev. Priestly Dafe enjoined all to know that power belongs to God.
He noted that power has different hierarchy and the highest power is of God; “God is the highest, He remains the highest and no other power can contest that power.
“Next in the hierarchy of power is government, government is the power that is ordained by God.
“The Church is the next in hierarchy to government; as a church, we enforce the authority of God here on earth.
“The next is the family, as individuals we must take time on how we raise our children.
“The next is the institutions, and everyone leading one institution or the other came from a family.
“As Leaders, we must advanced His kingdom and His church here on earth; we must support the church leaders with goodwill and as leaders we must continually ask for God’s guidance and wisdoms and understanding.”
