Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Rivers State Governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has charged Party members in the state to embrace unity as a strategy, declaring that it is not optional, but rather a veritable blueprint which will not only consolidate party unity, but eventually propel the party towards achieving victory in the 2027 general elections.
This admonition was contained a statement released by the NDC Media Team, Rivers State, after a hugely successful strategic meeting convened by Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs with members of the State Working Committee (SWC), Senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly aspirants and other party faithful, at the Party Secretariat in Port Harcourt, on Friday, June 12, 2026.
The statement reads:
NDC RIVERS STATE MOVES TO CONSOLIDATE UNITY AFTER PRIMARIES.
Our Governorship candidate in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rivers State Chapter, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, today held a strategic meeting with members of the State Working Committee (SWC), Senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly aspirants at the Party Secretariat in Port Harcourt as part of efforts to consolidate the gains of the recently concluded party primaries and strengthen internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, which brought together aspirants from across the State, served as a platform for reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to the collective vision of the Party. It provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review the outcome of the primaries, address concerns arising from the process, and chart a unified course towards building a formidable political structure capable of delivering victory in the forthcoming elections.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs emphasized the need for unity, mutual respect, and collective sacrifice among party faithful. While acknowledging that no primary election process is entirely devoid of challenges, he noted that the overall success of the exercise should be celebrated and that any perceived shortcomings must not be allowed to overshadow the larger objective of positioning the NDC as the preferred political alternative for the people of Rivers State.
He urged all aspirants and their supporters to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and reconciliation, stressing that the true beneficiaries of a divided party would be political opponents. According to him, the task ahead requires every member to put aside personal interests and ambitions in favour of the broader goal of building a strong, united, and victorious party.
Chief Lulu-Briggs further commended the leadership of the State Chairman, Hon. Success Jack, and members of the State Executive Committee for their dedication, resilience, and administrative ingenuity in expanding the Party’s operational framework across the twenty-three Local Government Areas of the State. He particularly praised the ongoing decentralization of party administration to the LGA, Ward, and Unit levels, describing it as a strategic move that would deepen grassroots participation and strengthen the Party’s presence in every community.
The Governorship Candidate also lauded the efforts of party leaders, stakeholders, and members who worked tirelessly before, during, and after the primaries to ensure a peaceful and transparent process. He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with all elected party candidates, aspirants, and stakeholders in building a united front capable of delivering good governance and meaningful development to the people of Rivers State.

Speaking during the meeting, the State Chairman, Hon. Success Jack, reiterated the commitment of the Party leadership to fairness, inclusiveness, and internal democracy. He assured members that the concerns raised during the primaries would be constructively addressed while emphasizing that the Party’s focus must now shift towards mobilization, membership expansion, and preparation for the 2027 elections.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution by all aspirants and party leaders to close ranks, strengthen internal solidarity, and work collectively towards the realization of the Party’s vision. Participants pledged their support for all duly nominated candidates and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the Nigeria Democratic Congress emerges as the leading political force in Rivers State and beyond.
The gathering marked yet another significant step in the Party’s ongoing efforts to foster unity, deepen internal democracy, and position itself as a credible platform for transformational leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Rivers NDC 2027 Governorship candidate, Opuda (Alabo) Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who posted on his verified social media handles, also captured the meeting thus:
UNITY IS NOT OPTIONAL. IT IS THE STRATEGY.
Yesterday, I joined my party’s State Working Committee, alongside Senatorial, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly aspirants from across Rivers State, at our Party Secretariat here in Port Harcourt.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress brought us together for one purpose: to look each other in the eye after a primary season, speak honestly, and recommit to something larger than any one of us.
I said it plainly in that room, and I will say it here too.
No primary process is perfect. Ours was not. But what we cannot afford, what Rivers State cannot afford, is to hand our opponents the victory they could never win at the ballot box by simply watching us turn on each other.
The true beneficiaries of a divided party are always our political opponents. That is not a theory. It is history.
So I called on every aspirant, every supporter, every committed member of the NDC to put personal grievance aside and fix their eyes on 2027. The stakes are too high and the moment too important for anything less.
I also want to place on record my deep appreciation for our State Chairman, Hon. Success Jack, and the entire State Executive Committee. The work they have done to expand our structure across all twenty-three Local Government Areas, pushing administration down to the ward and unit levels, is exactly the kind of foundational work that wins elections. It does not make headlines, but it makes the difference.
To every party leader, mobilizer, and member who worked before, during, and after these primaries to keep the process peaceful and transparent: I see your sacrifice. And I am committed to rewarding it with the kind of leadership Rivers State deserves.
We left that room yesterday with a unanimous resolution to close ranks. That resolution now belongs to all of us.
2027 is not coming. It is here.
And we will meet it — together.
