Wike’s PDP Block Dissolves 14 States Excos, Fixes Congresses for January 2026

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is experiencing a deepening crisis as a faction backed by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved the executives of 14 state chapters and announced plans to conduct fresh congresses in January 2026. The affected states include Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.

The Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee, led by Acting Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman and Acting National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, claims to be the legitimate leadership of the party. They argue that their actions are in line with the party’s constitution and aim to stabilize the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

This move is part of the ongoing power struggle within the PDP, with the Wike faction opposing the leadership of National Chairman Tanimu Turaki, who was elected at the party’s national convention in Ibadan in November 2025. The faction has also assigned portfolios to some of its members, including Professor Adenike Ogunse as Women Leader and Ambassador Dr. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as Youth Leader.

The crisis has led to the expulsion of several prominent party members, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and Dauda Lawal, who are seen as opposing Wike’s faction. The party’s internal conflicts have raised concerns about its ability to function as a viable opposition party.
