The appointment of Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola as the 23rd Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, marks a significant chapter in the security architecture of the state. A seasoned officer with decades of distinguished service, CP Aina Adesola succeeds Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda, who was recently promoted and redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, as AIG in charge of the Department of Operations.

Born on September 2, 1968, to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Aina Ajana of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Aina Adesola’s journey into policing is one defined by discipline, commitment, and steady professional growth. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Ondo State University in 1990, a foundation that would later shape his people-oriented approach to law enforcement.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a member of Course 4 Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and trained at the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State. Upon completion of his training, fate brought him to Delta State in 1996, where he first served in Ogwashi-Uku—an early connection with the state he now leads as Commissioner of Police.
Over the years, CP Aina Adesola has built an impressive career spanning operational, investigative, administrative, and training assignments.

His postings include service as Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Aswani Division, between 2012 and 2015; Officer-in-Charge (OC) Homicide, Edo State Command, in 2016; and OC, X-Squad, Zone 2, Lagos State, also in 2016. Between 2018 and 2022, he served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Abia State Command, where he earned commendations for prudence and discipline.
His passion for grooming the next generation of officers saw him appointed Commandant, Police Training School, Oyin-Akoko, Ondo State, in 2022. He later served at the national level as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, before moving to Rivers State Command in 2023 as Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Perhaps most notably for Deltans, CP Aina Adesola served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Delta State Command, from 2023 to 2025, a role that placed him at the heart of crime-fighting strategies in the state. His elevation to the rank of Commissioner of Police in 2025 came with a posting to Lagos State as Deputy Commandant, Police College, Ikeja, where he served for seven months before his deployment in January 2026 to Delta State as Commissioner of Police.

A firm believer in continuous professional development, CP Aina Adesola has attended numerous leadership and specialised courses within and outside Nigeria. These include the Citizenship and Leadership Course at Sherri Hills, Jos; Leadership and Tactical Command Courses at the Police Staff College, Jos; Police Mobile Training Course, Gwoza; Community Policing Train-the-Trainers Course at the Police College, Ikeja; and international law enforcement programmes at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Gaborone, Botswana, and Roswell, New Mexico, USA.

Widely described by colleagues as disciplined, detribalised, and deeply professional, CP Aina Adesola is known for his humility and strong belief in community-based policing. A lover of reading, travelling, and football, he balances his demanding career with a stable family life, being happily married and blessed with children.
While formally assuming office, the new Commissioner of Police pledged to consolidate existing security frameworks and intensify proactive policing across Delta State. He called on residents to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies, while urging youths to shun crime and all forms of criminal inducement.
In his handing-over remarks, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government and the people of the state for their cooperation during his tenure and appealed for the same support to be extended to his successor.

Addressing journalists, CP Aina Adesola gave a firm assurance that under his leadership, the Delta State Police Command would remain professional, resolute, and proactive, ensuring that Delta State becomes increasingly hostile to criminal elements.

As he takes the helm, expectations are high. For many observers, the journey of CP Aina Adesola—a “super cop” forged by experience, training, and integrity—offers renewed hope for safer communities and strengthened security across Delta State.
