Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress, APC has won the eargerly anticipated Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC chairmanship election, defeating his closest challenger Dr.Moses Ogidi Paul, of the African Democratic Congress ADC, and a host of other contenders.
Maikalangu, the incumbent AMAC Chairman and annointed candidate of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, scored 40,295 votes to defeat Moses Paul, the candidate fully backed by ADC Chieftain and Labor Party Presidential candidate in the2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, who came a distant second with 12,109 votes, while the PDP (whose candidate, Mr Zadna Dantani, stepped down for Maikalangu less than 48 hours to the election on the instruction and intervention of Minister Wike), garnered 3,398 votes.
Announcing the results AMAC’s collation officer, Prof. Andrew Abue, stated that there were 2,336 rejected votes, with a total of 62,861 valid votes and 65,197 votes cast overall, adding that AMAC has 837,338 registered voters, of whom 65,676 were accredited for the election.
Declaring Christopher Maikalangu of the APC winner, Prof. Abue pronounced: “That Maikalangu of the APC, having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Iber Shimakaha of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) – 90 votes
Eze Chukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) -1,111 votes
Chukwu Promise of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) -122 votes .
Simon Obinna of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 2,185 votes
Madaki Robert of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) – 421 votes
Swani Buba of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) – 189 votes.
Ugoh Michael of the Action Peoples Party(APP) – 32 votes
