Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State has characterised his transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as one of the most natural decisions of his career.
Governor Fubara claimed he was never truly treated as an insider by his former party.
Speaking to journalists at the APC National Headquarters on Wednesday night, Governor Fubara offered a candid reflection on his time with the PDP.
He described himself as a mere observer during his tenure there.
“I was in my former party just nominally,” the Governor remarked.
“I wasn’t inside the house; I was outside, on the balcony.”

Governor Fubara moved formally to the ruling APC on December 9, 2025.
The Governor framed his defection as a gesture of “appreciation and gratitude” toward the President, whose intervention he credits with stabilising the state.
He noted that nearly 90 percent of the political hardships he endured during the crisis were “imposed” on him by the PDP leadership.
Governor Fubara expressed confidence that his alignment with the “progressive family” would provide the leadership and direction Rivers State has lacked.
“We now have a direction. Maybe before, we didn’t have a leader or a governor as the head of the party. Now that I am a member, I will ensure that I bring everybody together for more unity and progress.”
Governor Fubara pledged to foster a unified front to drive development, insisting that his “heart has always been progressive.”
