GOV. FUBARA COMMISSIONS STATE-OF-THE-ART AHOADA ZONAL HOSPITAL, BOOSTS HEALTHCARE DELIVERY

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has commissioned the upgraded Ahoada Zonal Hospital, a 105-bed secondary healthcare facility aimed at improving healthcare services in the Orashi Region and beyond.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, highlighted the hospital’s strategic location, serving as a referral center for primary and smaller secondary healthcare facilities in Rivers West Senatorial District especially Ahoada East, Ahoada East, Abua/Odual Local Government Areas. “The facility’s completion demonstrates Governor Fubara’s commitment to quality intermediary healthcare and staff welfare,” Dr. Oreh said.

The hospital features modern equipment, laboratories, operating theaters, intensive care units, and administrative offices which are;
-Pediatric ward
-Clinics
-Pharmacy
-Ultrasound unit
-Accident and emergency unit
-Surgical theatre
-Radiology suites
-Mortuary
-Laboratories
-Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
-Obstetrics and gynecology ward
-Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
-Delivery suites
Administrative & Support Services:
-Reception
-Administrative offices
-Library and conference hall
Staff & Accommodation:
-Staff quarters for 24 health personnel and their families
Additionally, the hospital residential units: include support buildings such as:
-Six one-bedroom apartments
-Six two-bedroom apartments
-Twelve self-contained units
-Kitchen and cafeteria
-Laundry
-Recreational garden
and it can also accommodate over 100 vehicles.

Dr. Oreh noted significant improvements in healthcare indicators, including:

  • 200% increase in health facility attendance
  • 40% increase in deliveries
  • 60% increase in skilled birth attendance
  • 20% increase in antenatal clinic visit attendance

The Honourable commissioner attributed these gains to Governor Fubara’s focus on healthcare and announced the state’s win as a three times winner of the primary healthcare leader in the South-South geopolitical zone from 2023- 2025.
Dr. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh also presented a $500,000 check to Governor Fubara, as part of the state’s award for primary healthcare leadership.

Governor Fubara reiterated his government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services, emphasizing the importance of quality healthcare for the people of Rivers State.
