DELTA APC DEBUNKS SAHARAREPORTERS’ CLAIMS OF CRISIS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PEACEFUL AND DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSES

The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta State, has been drawn to a publication by SaharaReporters dated February 13, 2026, alleging a crisis within the party arising from the purported imposition of ward and local government executives ahead of the scheduled party congresses.

We categorically state that the report is completely unfounded, baseless, grossly misleading, speculative, and without any iota of truth. It is a sensational narrative built on rumours and half-truths, laced with deliberate distortions apparently designed to sow discord within the party, misinform the public, create unnecessary tension, and undermine the unity and internal democratic processes of our great party.

For the avoidance of doubt, the leadership of the Delta State APC, in strict adherence to the party’s constitution and the official guidelines issued for the conduct of the ward and local government congresses, convened a duly constituted stakeholders’ meeting on January 23, 2026. At that meeting, leaders and stakeholders from across the three senatorial districts of the state unanimously adopted the consensus arrangement as a pragmatic and time-honoured mechanism to ensure hitch-free, peaceful, and transparent congresses.

The consensus approach, which is expressly recognized within the framework of our party’s constitution, is designed to promote inclusiveness, strengthen internal cohesion, and prevent avoidable rancour that may arise from divisive contests. The arrangement has so far been successfully implemented across wards and local government areas in the state, with satisfactory and widely accepted outcomes and we encourage leaders and stakeholders at the ward and local government levels to continue with the consensus arrangements.

The attempt by SaharaReporters to mischievously portray this consensus exercise as an imposition is highly reprehensible and represents a clear mischaracterization of the transparent consultative processes undertaken at the ward and local government levels. At no time was any individual or group empowered to impose candidates outside the collective decisions reached by stakeholders.

Furthermore, we emphatically reject insinuations that any individuals or groups have hijacked the congress process, manipulated executive committee lists, or deployed financial inducements to influence outcomes. The leadership of the Delta State APC has neither authorized nor condoned any act of intimidation, coercion, or anti-party conduct. These allegations are baseless fabrications that exist only in the imagination of the authors of the report. The party maintains zero tolerance for anti-party activities and remains firmly committed to fairness, equity, and due process.

Delta APC remains committed to a united party and we urge our members, supporters and the general public to discountenance the SaharaReporters story in its entirety. It does not reflect the true state of affairs within the Delta State APC. Our party is focused and fully prepared to conduct credible congresses that will further consolidate our strength and build a formidable party structures at all levels ahead of future political engagements.

Delta State APC reassures all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and the peaceful conduct of its activities. We call on the media to uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism by verifying facts before publication and avoiding reports capable of unnecessarily heating up the polity.

APC Renewed Hope for M.O.R.E. Agenda
