The Delta State House of Assembly has resumed plenary after its recess, receiving from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori a bill seeking to provide a legal framework for the payment of a 13th-month salary to eligible public servants in the state.
The Governor also notified the House of his intention to proceed on a two-week working leave beginning Monday, September 7, 2026.
The bills and other legislative proposals were conveyed to the House in separate communications and read during Wednesdayās plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.
In his letter on the proposed 13th-month salary, Governor Oborevwori explained that the State Executive Council had earlier approved the initiative as part of measures to improve workersā welfare, boost morale and productivity, and enhance their overall wellbeing.
According to the Governor, the proposed legislation is intended to establish a statutory framework for the payment of the 13th-month salary, which would be equivalent to one gross monthly salary for eligible public servants.
He urged the House to give the bill expeditious consideration and passage.
Also forwarded to the Assembly were bills seeking amendments to the Delta State High Court Law, 2023, and the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal Law, 2001.
Governor Oborevwori said the proposed amendments were aimed at strengthening the administration of justice and improving the efficiency of the stateās judicial system.
Under the proposed amendment to the High Court Law, the number of judges in the Delta State High Court would increase from 45, including the Chief Judge, to 50, while the number of judges of the Customary Court of Appeal would rise from nine to 12.
The Governor said the proposed increase in the number of judicial officers would enhance the effective and efficient administration of justice across the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Oborevwori has nominated Mr. Emasogbe Matthew Oghene for appointment as Auditor-General of Delta State following the retirement of the former occupant of the office.
The Speaker directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of his curriculum vitae to the Office of the Clerk of the House on or before Monday, September 7, 2026.
Mr. Emasogbe is scheduled to appear before the House on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for screening.
In a separate communication, the Governor formally notified the House of his intention to proceed on a two-week working leave commencing Monday, September 7, 2026.
The notification was received by the Assembly as the lawmakers resumed legislative business following their recess.
