Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has said the achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration are too visible to be discredited by political attacks.
Aniagwu spoke on Sunday while featuring on Arise News’ “The Morning Show”, where he responded to criticisms of the administration and the emerging political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said comments by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, about Delta State’s savings with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) amounted to an acknowledgement of the government’s prudent management of resources.
“If you Google him, you will see where he said that we have saved so much money with the CBN. Why are we saving money? He has even mentioned it, which means an acknowledgement of the fact that our government has been able to manage our resources,” Aniagwu said.
The commissioner said Delta had become both financially solvent and liquid through what he described as prudent management by Oborevwori.
“We are not only solvent, we are also very liquid. And we did not become liquid by accident. We became liquid because our governor is a very, very prudent manager of resources,” he said.
Aniagwu also cited the recently held Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, where the governor announced plans to commit $100 million as a de-risking fund to attract investments into the state.
“That tells you the strength of the economy,” he said, adding that the initiative demonstrated the confidence investors could have in the state.
He disclosed that the administration provides up to 40 per cent mobilisation for awarded projects, which he said had accelerated the pace of execution.
“For each of the projects that we award, we give as much as 40 per cent mobilisation. No state is doing that in Nigeria,” he said.
According to him, the policy had enabled several projects to be completed on schedule, with some delivered ahead of their completion dates.
Aniagwu said the administration’s achievements extended beyond road construction, stressing that the impact of the MORE Agenda was visible across various sectors.
He particularly highlighted the improved road network, saying it had made movement across the state easier.
“Today you can travel very smoothly without any single pothole all the way from Asaba down to Ughelli and then proceed to Warri on the federal corridor. That has been made possible by the effort of the Oborevwori administration,” he said.
The commissioner said the administration’s performance had made it difficult for its opponents to accuse the governor of non-performance.
“His footprints are very, very bold and visible. He knows that he cannot accuse Oborevwori of not performing. He knows that Oborevwori has performed beyond the expectations of many,” Aniagwu said.
He also dismissed claims that recent political developments could weaken the governor’s political base, saying the administration remained focused on governance and service to the people.
On Omo-Agege’s political strategy, Aniagwu alleged that the former senator was seeking to gain media attention through criticisms of the government.
He said political contests were ultimately determined by preparation, records and grassroots support.
Aniagwu recalled that Senator Ede Dafinone defeated Omo-Agege in the APC senatorial primary, attributing the outcome to Dafinone’s record in the Senate and his grassroots strength.
He said the Oborevwori administration would not be distracted by what he described as issues “completely at variance with reality”.
“Our route is to continue to stay on the path of governance,” he said.
Aniagwu also dismissed suggestions that the political realignment in Delta had weakened the governor’s support base, saying the administration’s strongest asset remained its achievements at the grassroots.
He cited the governor’s recent tour of communities and farms across the state, where residents reportedly turned out spontaneously to welcome him.
According to Aniagwu, the reception reflected the people’s appreciation of the infrastructure being provided in their communities.
“What is pushing them is that they are seeing the infrastructure in their villages,” he said.
He said the Oborevwori administration would remain focused on infrastructure, economic development and opportunities for Deltans, rather than engaging in political mudslinging.
