
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled renowned technocrat, lawyer and seasoned political strategist, Dr. Mike Barieenee Nwielaghi, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election, pairing him with the party’s governorship flag bearer, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs.
The emergence of Dr. Nwielaghi on the NDC ticket has generated excitement across Rivers State, particularly in Ogoni land and among political stakeholders who view the combination as one of experience, competence and grassroots appeal.
The names of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and Dr. Nwielaghi have been submitted by the party to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dr. Nwielaghi, an illustrious son of Buan Community in Khana Local Government Area, is one of Rivers State’s most experienced political figures, having played strategic roles in the evolution of Nigeria’s democratic process over the years.
A seasoned politician, lawyer, and technocrat, Dr. Nwielaghi has held several leadership positions in politics, MOSOP, KAGOTE, and HYPREP.
His emergence is being seen by political observers as a move that strengthens the NDC’s chances in the 2027 governorship race.
