TEARS, LAUGHTER AND DREAMS TAKE OVER AGBOR AS NDDC AND TAMARA’S CHARITY FOUNDATION GIVE NIGER DELTA CHILDREN THEIR “FUTURE NOW”

AGBOR, Delta State — On Friday, 19th June 2026, the Vienna Arena Event Centre in Boji-Boji, Agbor, did not just host an event. It held hope in its hands. The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, working hand in hand with Tamara’s Charity Foundation, created “Future Now — Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child”, and for one unforgettable day, hundreds of children from across Delta State and the wider Niger Delta felt seen, heard and loved.

There were tears of pride from mothers in the audience. There was laughter that shook the rafters when a shy boy from a riverine community took the stage and spoke about becoming a doctor. There was applause that lasted long after a girl with a disability finished her dance and bowed with tears in her eyes. This was not just a program. It was a promise kept.

Barr. Chiedu Ebie, Chairman, Governing Board, NDDC, has always said that development must be measured in children who believe in tomorrow. On Friday, that belief was alive in every corner of the hall. Roads and bridges are vital, but a child who has lost hope is a bridge that can never be crossed. “Future Now” was NDDC’s way of saying: we will not leave any child behind.

The Commission’s delegation stood as living proof of that commitment. From NDDC Headquarters, Engr. Jeremiah Oritsejolone, Director, Social Services, and Mr. Atirene Etan, Assistant Director, Community Relations Department, CRD, walked through the crowd, listening to stories, hugging children, and clapping with them. From the Delta State Office, Mr. Irene Emawodia, Deputy Director, Education, Health and Social Services, EHSS, moved among teachers and parents, reminding them that government and community must raise children together. Their presence turned policy into presence.

Inside the arena, inclusion was not a word on a banner. It was a boy with crutches leading a poem and receiving a standing ovation. It was a girl from a remote village explaining her science project to engineers from NDDC Headquarters. It was mentors from medicine, technology, law, education and the arts kneeling down to look children in the eye and say, “You can do this.” The talent showcase was raw, beautiful and real. Spoken word, music, dance and innovation proved that brilliance in the Niger Delta does not need permission. It only needs a stage. Educational materials found their way into small hands, and medical teams checked little hearts and big dreams, reminding every child that their body and their mind matter.

When Barr. Chiedu Ebie’s Special Assistant, Hon. John Aleh, stepped forward to represent the Chairman, his voice carried the weight of a father’s love. He did not lecture. He pleaded. He urged the children to guard their future against cultism, drug abuse and every shortcut that destroys destiny. “Your future is now,” he told them, and you could hear the emotion catch in his throat. “NDDC believes in you before the world does. Stay in school. Respect your parents and teachers. Protect your character. Delta is waiting for your brains, your talents and your good hearts. We are investing in you because you are the reason we are here.”

A message from Barr. Chiedu Ebie himself, delivered through Hon. Aleh, brought the hall to a hush. He called the children the true assets of the Niger Delta, not for what they might become, but for who they already are. He reaffirmed that NDDC will continue to invest in human beings with the same transparency and passion it invests in infrastructure. “When we invest in every child, no matter their background, gender, faith or ability, we are investing in peace and prosperity,” he said. “The MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and NDDC’s renewed mandate are chasing the same goal: a Niger Delta where no child is invisible. That is inclusion. That is Future Now.”

Tamara’s Charity Foundation, co-convener and heartbeat of the day, was represented by Chioma Ogorchukwu. Her voice trembled as she thanked parents, teachers, traditional rulers, volunteers and every hand that made the event possible. “Today we did not just talk about inclusion,” she said, fighting back tears. “We practiced it. We watched children who the world often overlooks lead, shine and inspire. We heard children from rural communities declare that they will be surgeons, engineers, teachers and inventors. That is the Niger Delta we dream of. A Niger Delta where every child counts.”

Parents clutched their children tighter as they left the arena. Teachers whispered prayers of gratitude. The children themselves walked out taller, some clutching certificates, others clutching new dreams. Friday in Agbor reminded everyone that when institutions and communities choose to love children deliberately, the Niger Delta does not just survive. It rises.

To every child who laughed, cried, performed and believed on that day: your future is now, and it is beautiful. To every stakeholder who stood with NDDC and Tamara’s Charity Foundation: thank you for choosing hope.

NDDC. Tamara’s Charity Foundation. For the children. For the Niger Delta. For tomorrow, today.
