The immediate past Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, has declared that the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, will serve as Governor for a total of eight years.
A statement signed by Dr. Amadi Eze, Senior Special Assistant to AMB. Chijioke Ihunwo (Media & Publicity), to issued on 20th December, 2025, disclosed that Ambassador Ihunwo made this declaration on Saturday, 20th December 2025, while hosting the women leadership of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area at his private residence.
Addressing the women leaders, Ambassador Ihunwo stated that the people of Obio/Akpor have aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara following his defection to the All Progressive Congress (APC). He further affirmed that the people of the local government are fully committed to supporting the Governor and ensuring his re-election for a second term, alongside working for the success of the President in his bid for a second tenure.
In demonstration of his appreciation and support for the women leadership, Ambassador Ihunwo disbursed the sum of Twelve Million Naira (₦12,000,000) to the women for their welfare. He also shared bags of rice and a cow with them as part of the Christmas celebration.
Speaking during the event, the wife of the former Chairman, Mrs. Millicent Ihunwo, expressed her gratitude to the women for their unwavering support for her husband over the years. She reassured them that their welfare and concerns would continue to receive priority attention.
