Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs
Frontline Rivers statesman, distinguished political figure and renowned corporate mogul, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has sent out strong signals of his intention to contest the Governorship of Rivers State in 2027, as Rivers people await in excited and heightened anticipation for his formal declaration to join the gubernatorial race in the state.
The most definitive sign yet of his desire to participate in the 2027 governorship election was recently released anonymously in a comprehensive and well articulated 6-Point vision statement for Rivers State, which circulated widely in the social media space and other media outlets.

The statement, contained in a colorfully designed graphic document, visually suggestive of the colours of the the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC political party, is a two-page manifesto-like blueprint titled: VISION FOR RIVERS STATE on the first page then presents Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs’ Photograph and hails him as Leader, Advocate, Servant of the people, who is committed to service dedicated to Rivers people.
The second page titled: VISION STATEMENT contains the 6 (six) points of his pledge to Rivers people, each point aptly highlighted by appropriate icons, as follows:
1. I do not seek compensation and do not seek to be Governor because there is an opportunity, but there are work to be done.
2. It is also not about Dumo. That would be trivializing the monumental challenges of the present times. I cannot be deficient in the courage necessary to pursue the aspirations of over 90% of Rivers people who seek a truly representative government.
3. This election is about us Rivers Citizens. Our today, our tomorrow and future, which must be great for our young citizens.
4. I shall pledge all as God gives me strength so to do. When we win, all Glory must go to God.
5. While we begin to work for actualization of this project for Rivers people, I am not in this for what I shall get. So compensation of whatsoever nature is an idea worth holding or nursing.
6. I have sworn eternal fidelity to the just causes and pursuit of every Rivers man, Woman and child.
SO HELP ME GOD.
This position was further corroborated by another post from Mercy Ibiere West, a popular online influencer and unwavering loyalist of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, on whose page the above vision statement was posted and which reads:
Rivers State deserves leadership that is driven by purpose, not personal gain.
Dumo Lulu-Briggs presents a vision rooted in service, accountability, and the genuine desire to move our state forward. This is not about ambition for its own sake, but about recognizing the urgent work that needs to be done.
At a time when many have lost trust in leadership, this message stands out it speaks to courage, responsibility, and a commitment to the people. It reminds us that governance should reflect the will and welfare of the majority, not a privileged few.
This is about Rivers people. Our present realities. Our future possibilities. And the kind of legacy we choose to build for the next generation.
Leadership is not about what one stands to gain, but what one is willing to give.
The question now is simple: Are we ready for leadership that truly represents us?

Polity watchers would have noted with pleasant anticipation and delight, a recent photograph circulated widely on several social media platforms, of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs’ with Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, founder and national leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress NDC, serving Senator and former Governor of Bayelsa State, in a warm and very convivial pose with the NDC logo boldly displayed in the background, thus teasing optic sensibilities and contented conclusions that Chief Lulu-Briggs’ has indeed seamlessly pitched political tent with the NDC, in order to pursue and actualize his quest for the Rivers State governorship seat, in 2027.
To further consolidate this conclusion is the fact that Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs was himself very much present at the NDC national convention with a sizable number of his supporters live at the venue of the event in Abuja

It could be recalled that Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs’ contested the 2023 Rivers State governorship election under the Accord political party and ran one of the most colorful, novel, robust, articulate and Issues-based campaign across the state, during which his campaign train was violently harassed by hoodlums and survived gunshots in one instant and constantly hounded by draconian executive orders and directives aimed at truncating political campaigns, all of which were widely reported in the media.
The overwhelming enthusiasm and acceptance that has greeted his highly esteemed presence and entrance in the Rivers Guber race is quite palpable across the State this time around, and has only been tempered quite understandably, by the circumstances of time and stipulated guidelines, as Rivers people await, with bated breath, the official announcement of the date and the formal declaration of Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs to contest in the 2027 Rivers State Governorship election.
