Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has paid a consultative visit to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Oshimili South, calling for unity among the Anioma people as a pathway to sustained political growth and development.
During the meeting, Senator Okowa emphasized the importance of collaboration across political lines, noting that the progress of Anioma land depends largely on the ability of its leaders and people to work together with a shared vision and common purpose.
The former governor underscored the need for collective leadership, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved when the people speak with one voice and pursue a shared vision. He noted that respect for leadership and inclusiveness are critical in advancing the interests of Anioma land.
Senator Okowa observed that the turnout of key stakeholders at the meeting reflects a strong sense of unity and commitment among the people, despite the absence of some leaders due to logistical constraints, adding that continued collaboration between leaders and the grassroots would further strengthen Anioma’s political influence.
He commended the people for their unwavering support over the years, noting that Anioma has continued to play a significant role in Delta State politics, but cautioned that disunity could undermine the progress already made and weaken their collective political strength.

On the proposed Anioma State, Okowa expressed concern over what he described as misinformation circulating on social media, clarifying that the people are not opposed to the creation of the state but insist that it must reflect their collective aspirations and agreed structure.
He explained that the envisioned Anioma State should comprise the nine local government areas in Delta North, remain within the South-South geopolitical zone, and retain Asaba as its capital, stressing that this position represents the genuine will of the people.
The former governor strongly defended the status of Asaba as the current capital of Delta State, describing any attempt to alter its status as unacceptable, while reiterating that the city’s growth and development must not be compromised under any circumstance.
