Senegal Demands Independent Investigation After CAF Strips 2025 AFCON Title

The Government of Senegal has strongly condemned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision to revoke the national team’s 2025 African Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco, calling the move “grossly illegal and profoundly unjust.”

Senegal has demanded the opening of an independent international investigation into possible corruption within CAF, citing a “manifestly erroneous interpretation of regulations” that undermines fairness, integrity, and the results achieved on the field.

The government confirmed it will pursue all legal avenues, including international judicial bodies, to restore the team’s rightful victory. Senegal also reaffirmed solidarity with citizens detained in Morocco following the CAN final incidents, promising full support for their release.

Marie Rose Khady Fatou Faye, Government Spokesperson, stated: “Senegal remains resolute and vigilant in defending the rights of its national team and the honor of African sport.”
