The Delta State Government has commenced construction of two roads in Akumazi-Umuocha community, Ika North-East Local Government Area, in a move aimed at improving accessibility, easing transportation and stimulating economic activities in the agrarian community.
The projects, which cover the construction of Ogbe-Uku Road and Idumu Igwe Street, are expected to improve connectivity within the community and provide residents with easier access to homes, farms, markets and other essential facilities.
Flagging off the construction works on Saturday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving the projects and directing their immediate commencement.
Aniagwu said the intervention reflected the governor’s commitment to extending infrastructure development to communities across the state, particularly rural areas where good road networks are critical to the livelihoods of residents.
He noted that the roads would address some of the transportation challenges facing the community, while improving movement within Akumazi-Umuocha and creating better opportunities for commercial and agricultural activities.

According to him, the Oborevwori administration recognises that meaningful development must be felt not only in major towns and cities but also in rural communities, where a significant proportion of the population depends on farming and small-scale businesses for their livelihood.
The commissioner said the projects were part of the administration’s deliberate efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure in line with its MORE Agenda, which prioritises Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
He expressed confidence that the completion of the roads would bring considerable relief to residents and further demonstrate the government’s determination to ensure that development reaches communities across the state.
The construction of Ogbe-Uku Road and Idumu Igwe Street adds to the state government’s ongoing infrastructure interventions aimed at improving rural connectivity, opening up communities and supporting grassroots economic growth.
