Farmers in Delta State have been urged to participate fully in an upcoming verification and registration exercise aimed at cleaning up the membership register of the Association of Farmers in the State.
The Chairman of All Farmers Association, Delta State Chapter, Snr. Comrade Francis Ganagana, announced this in Asaba on Monday. He said the exercise will cover all commodities and farming clusters across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Ganagana explained that the verification is necessary because many people who are not real farmers have been tagged as “portfolio farmers” and are benefiting from opportunities meant for genuine farmers.
He also disclosed that the Association will soon conduct inauguration at the local government, ward, and unit levels and the Dates will be announced soon.
According to him, coordinators at the LGA and commodity levels have been mandated to identify and register authentic farmers in their domains.
The Chairman called on all farmers to turn out en masse when the exercise begins to ensure they are captured in the new database, which will be used for government support programs and other agricultural interventions.
